In addition, printers use small, soft pellets to absorb the excess ink that accumulates when printing and cleaning the printheads. I'll just try and clean the sponge in place. I don't do any borderless printing so I don't know why there is ink on the lhs of the carriage. I would NOT recommend borderless printing, BTW. A peristaltic pump below the pads pulls a slight vacuum to direct cleaning waste ink directly to the waste ink diaper. That station is where head cleaning operation occurs. The parking station is on the right hand side, and it has the purge station pads with rubber seals surrounding thin porous ceramic inserts. Instead, you might try pulling the power (so the print head stays parked), and use toilet tissue to absorb what that might pick up from the surface, being VERY careful not to leave any lint. If you want to try to remove it, you are facing a really messy job, and they can be tough to get back into position. It should not "require" cleaning, unless you are experiencing spotting on print edges or the backside of the paper. It "should" deposit overspray to the waste ink diaper. That linear "sponge" captures the overspray from such operation. I assume that you do a lot of borderless printing.
